North Texas Giving Day

This year Dallas Makerspace will be participating in North Texas Giving Day and we’re hoping you can help us make it a success.

All donations made through NorthTexasGivingDay.org on September 17th helps our chances of winning more than 70 prizes given throughout the day ranging from $500 to $5,000. Donations of $25 or more will be eligible for more than $2 million dollars in bonus funds. To give you an idea, last year every gift up to $50,000 from an individual earned an extra 8.4% for their chosen nonprofit.

If your company offers employee donation matching, your donation on this day is eligible and we will still receive those funds on top of the bonus funds.

All donations are tax deductible.

This is a big opportunity for DMS and we hope you can share in our enthusiasm.

Here’s where we need your help now.

We’re trying to find any local companies, foundations or individuals willing to participate in a matching funds program.

So, Company XYZ would match donations 1:1 for up to x dollars. Does anyone have any contacts that may be interested in something like this?

If you can put us in contact with the right people, we can take it from there or if you’re more comfortable being the initial point of contact I can send you some more info.

We’re eligible to participate in the prize challenge for “New Participants: Most Donors” this year as well!

This means if we have the most donations in our medium size non profit category, no matter the amount, we’ll get $5,000!

I don’t think this is a bad goal to shoot for. Most of the well known non-profits in our size category have been participating for multiple years and won’t be eligible. I think if we can get 400 people to donate any amount we would be in the running for this.

I just wanted to bring this to peoples attention again. The deadline for finding a matching sponsor is quickly approaching. If you have a contact for a company that you think will do matching funds, please let us know.

We’re almost a week away guys!

Just a reminder and small FAQ since I’ve seen questions arise in another thread.

Go here on 9/17 from 6am to midnight: dallasmakerspace.org/ntxgivingday and make a donation of any size to help our organization. Any gifts of more than $25 will be eligible for bonus funds. But donations of ANY size will help us to be eligible for special prizes(most unique donations for example) and will be greatly appreciated.

Have you seen the lawn sign out front? Take a picture of it and post it to Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram. Make sure to include the #NTXGivingDay hashtag and the name of our organization. This enters us into a contest for participating nonprofits.

Let me know if there are any questions!

I asked Melissa yesterday if we could direct a donation to DMS to a particular committee during the Giving Day? She suggested I pose the question here. I think people would be more inclined to donate if they could direct the funds towards a particular committee. I also understand the complexities of doing this and the need for funds to be put back into the main DMS fund, but I thought I would ask the question.

Is it possible to direct a donation to a committee within DMS?

I haven’t seen the actual donation page yet since it is not live yet, but if there is a comments section or a place to specify we can direct those funds accordingly. I spoke with Ben previously and we will do our best to accommodate the request but can not guarantee it.

That sounds very fair. I know that trying to manage the logistics of a large number of requests for specialized donations could become unwieldy. I hope the North Texas Giving Day is a huge success for DMS.

There WILL be a spot to designate what committee you’d like the money to go to.

However, we won’t be accepting donations towards a specific tool purchase- if you’re going to specify then it should go towards a whole committee.

If you don’t specify where you’d like the money to go then it’ll go into the general fund.

Melissa,

There WILL be a spot to designate what committee you’d like the money to go to.

I see a notes section where you can manually type - is that what you are talking about? Or is there a radio button you select? (because that I don’t see)

The Notes section is it. You can specify a committee in there and we will do our best to make sure that committee receives the funds.

Another way to participate!

This year North Texas Giving Day is having a photo contest! If you post a photo of yard signs and tag #NTXGivignDay,

you may win $100 for the North Texas Giving Day participating nonprofit of your choice! These are all over the DFW

area, so keep your eyes open! Please review the rules carefully. If you fail to comply with the rules below, you may

not be eligible for the drawing.

  1. If you see a North Texas Giving Day yard sign, take a picture of it!

  2. Your safety is of utmost importance. Please refrain from taking photos while driving. If you see a yard sign and

would like to participate in our contest, pull over and take the picture.

  1. Tag North Texas Giving Day in your picture on either Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram (Be sure to include #NTXGivingDay ). If you tag North Texas Giving Day on Facebook, Twitter AND Instagram, your name will be placed

in the drawing 3 times. Once you’ve used the picture on each social media platform, it cannot be used again. Each

picture will be reviewed to ensure there are no duplicates.

  1. You must include the name of the nonprofit you would choose to give $100 to in your post. The nonprofit

organization must be participating in North Texas Giving Day.

  1. On North Texas Giving Day (Sept. 17, 2015) we will draw a name from the pool of eligible contest participants.

The winner will be notified, and the $100 donation will be made in their name!

Alex,

The Notes section is it. You can specify a committee in there and we will do our best to make sure that committee receives the funds.

Thanks you for the clarification.

Also, the questions:

“Is your company a member of EFNT?”

“Does your employer have a matching gift program?”

Is that a YES or a NO to those? Or None of the Above?

Walk us through it, man, or else the chances of an ambiguous hangpoint question increases the likelihood that people won’t go all the way through the process.

P.S. I remember you mentioning that there are prizes for the sheer number of givers, regardless of amount, so even $1 or $5 makes a difference and can qualify us for additional money.

Correct. I just left everything as non of the above.

Here’s where you can find if you work for an EFNT company: Center For Business Impact - Communities Foundation Of Texas

As far as the Employer Matching Gift Programs, if your employer has a program where they match donations (and this can be done AFTER the donation is made) this donation can count towards that.

And yes ALL gifts can help us! Only donations of $25 or over will qualify for the bonus funds, but as this is our first year participating, we’re eligible for a couple of prizes based solely on donations of any size made by unique donors.

Please donate! we are now at $250. Need more people to step up if they can.

FYI, the bonus rate is calculated from the amount of bonus funds divided the donations given.

The example given for 2013 is $1.5 Million / $23.6 Million = 6.4%, so if you donate $100 then the total contribution is $106.40.

Edit: Removed video since it was out of date. This years bonus pool is $2.4 million. Just kicked in $105.62, including the processing fee. You are now challenged to do the same. Show us what you got!

Now up to $450!
