New Woodshop Classes

You might have noticed an increase in Woodshop classes recently. We have renamed “Woodshop Basics” to Woodshop Safety & Orientation to better reflect the intent of the class. We will be adding an online component to this class towards the beginning of next month. The goal is to help new members become familiar with the equipment and safety concerns via videos prior to attending the lab portion of the class. The online portion will also include details on our shop culture and rules, along with a quiz. This will be required prior registering for the lab/shop portion.

More on how things have been organized.

Woodshop Tools Series
These are in-depth hands-on classes that train members on how to use our larger tools in a safe manner. There will be classes for all of our major tools.

@TSki has been testing the Woodshop Tools - The Table Saw
This teaches how to accomplish common uses of the saw in a safe manner.

@pjolone1 has been testing Woodshop Tools - The Router Table
This 2 hour class goes over how to safely use the table router & some common bits.

Woodshop Skills Series
These classes teach skills, hand tools, and techniques most woodworkers commonly need to understand in order to accomplish thier projects.

@BirdMan & I have been holding these classes.
So far we have taught Kreg Pocket Joinery, Hand Router Techniques, Biscuit Joinery, and the Multi-tool. We will be adding hand tool sharpening with the 3M scary Sharp System when our supplies arrive. We plan on adding many more classes in the future. If it is valuable and seen on YouTube, we will most likely have it.

Woodshop - Make & Take
These classes allow members to make quick projects and take them home. Some might be a single visit, although others might require more visits to finish.

@BirdMan is holding the first one next week. Blue-Bird House Build It requires no prior knowledge and won’t require the use of power tools. It is focused for those members that want to build a bird house in a fun relaxed environment.

@TSki is beginning development of an awesome Router Bowl class. You will learn how to create awesome projects like these. We understand that you need something new to make after running out of people to give all those cutting boards to.

Lathe Area
The Lathe area will also be adding many new classes and their own Make & Take project classes. We hope to have social turning nights soon. More details on this awesome development coming soon.

We are adding several new instructors in both the Woodshop and Lathe Area.

If you are interested in teaching or leading a class please reach out and contact me.

Special thanks to our Board of Directors for supporting Woodshop’s efforts to grow our committee.

Our goal is to have the best selection of basic and intermediate skill woodworking & tool courses in North Texas.
