New to the world of metal shop

I have seen the area, however I have no idea what any of those big machines do. I was wondering if there are classes for any of this stuff. I tried to see classes relating to metal shop on the calendar and couldnt really find anything.

We used to cover some of the machines during in-person Hot Process Safety, but it’s now online. I wonder if

Do you have a question about specific machine(s)? If you find me tomorrow after 6pm in automotive or metal shop, I can walk you through what each machine does, and get you training if necessary.

I’m wondering if you might be thinking of the machine shop rather than the metal shop for the “big machines” you were talking about.

I also do not know how to use the machines in there or what they’re capable of doing, but I’m interested in finding out

The offer is extended to you as well.

Machine shop questions can be directed towards Tim

Well now that makes me feel like I know even less than I thought lol. I know nothing about any of the two areas. :joy:

MetalShop & MachineShop (and the rest of DMS) have tools on Our Tools list in the Wiki (the tools list hasn’t been moved to Source, yet) that might help get a bead on what is what:

Often there are links to owner’s manuals & the like, too.

I’d love training as well as I am new to the makers space and interested in some of the metal shop tools (specifically the CNC Plasma Cutter and Power Shear). I can stop by today at 6PM if the offer still stands!
