New to DMS, would love some help with the Vinyl Cutter

Hello! I’ve just joined DMS and I don’t see any Vinyl cutting classes on the calendar, any suggestions on who can help? And whether, in general, helpers prefer to be paid in cupcakes or home-made biryani?

Thanks!

-Zeba

I wish I knew how to use it if biryani is involved, but try…

@mreynolds

Or @Nick made some awesome decals I’ve seen around

@Adam_Oas gives classes on it, not sure when his next class is.

Haha, I would love a hands-on intro to the sewing equipment as well, and there can definitely be biryani.

My parents used to run a restaurant, and if nothing else, I make awesome biryani.

I’m glad to do that as a freebie, but the best person for sewing stuff is either @Kriskat30 @dryad2b or @John_Marlow

Kris taught me the serger, Beth taught me the sewing machines, and Chris Marlowe taught me the embroidery machine. I’m glad to help out though any time with stuff! I’m not on the same level as these ladies, so it would be a lesson from a newb.

Thanks, maybe I should start a different thread:

Will trade Biryani for the following skills:

-Vinyl Cutter
-Pottery Wheel
-Kiln
-Sewing room walk-through

When are you usually at DMS?

I just joined yesterday, but weekday mornings work well for me, I can also get out in the evenings after 8pm. How about you?

I’m only there during the evening and on weekends, but my schedule is super unpredictable lately.

No worries! When your schedule stabilizes it would be lovely to meet up.

Welcome! I’m so glad you joined!
If you have any interest in fiber arts, feel free to join us on Tuesday evenings we have a blast.

I’d be glad to trade vinyl skills for some biryani any day of the week, but I won’t be back at the makerspace until next week hopefully.

The kiln is only operated by two people (that I’m aware of, @Nathan_Jones and John K). Reasons include safety, energy consumption and I’m sure there are other reasons. But items are baked pretty often, @Team_Fired_Arts have a system in place.

MMM Biryani!

I don’t know the software for the DMS Vinyl cutter unfortunately. I use a different software package at my office and haven’t taken the time to learn the DMS software. But, I’m a Chubby Kid and the offer of Biryani may be the straw that break the camel’s back on making the time. If you need to cut vinyl wider than 2 ft, feel free to hit me up, my machine at the office is 5ft wide.

@Adam_Oas is definitely the DMS Vinyl Cutter Pro.

Thanks for thinking of me @SewingStuff especially with the food offer, sorry I couldn’t help.

I am also interested in a vinyl cutter class so I can get authorized to use it. I can only attend evening/night and weekend classes.

I have been meaning to get some more Vinyl classes on the schedule, but have been backed up a bit with my own schedule. I’m looking at the 28th or 29th right now. This would be in the evening (6:30 or so).

@dryad2b with Fired Arts would be able to help you with information on the Pottery Wheel and Kiln.

I heard you made the awesome Logistics stickers, so I felt the need to give you SOME credit.

Not sure exactly what I could contribute, but I bet I can think of something. I’d love to learn the vinyl cutter, too. Some good coffee? Cookies? Happy to pitch in. Maybe we could make it a two-person micro-class?

BTW: I’m new, too. Had an amazing introduction from some friends and am really looking forward to getting involved in the community, especially Creative Arts!

Of November? I could totally make the 29th (and potentially 28th, too, if that only works for you).

I’m happy to help with any of the sewing skills. Just let me know.
