The computers attached to the Lasersaur and Full Spectrum Laser now have Adobe Creative Cloud so you can use Photoshop and Illustrator on the machines. The computer attached to the Full Spectrum Laser now uses domain login like the Lasersaur has been for a while. There’s a new (but used) Epilog Zing 16 with a 30 watt tube that’s setup but not ready for general use yet. It was purchased today for $2,500 from laser funds. It will be integrated with the training classes and such in the coming weeks.
The new laser from China is still happening, this Epilog Zing 16 was something that just popped up and we decided to take advantage of. Updates on the new laser from China will be in the thread dedicated to that.
You should be able to see the edit history by clicking the edit icon (pencil) next to the title… At any rate, it’s super kewl we’ve got a small laser for the smaller jobs now! Thanks!!!
Several technical roadblocks had to be worked out before the machine could be used safely and reliably. It has taken a little while because it was an unexpected purchase with no planning (good deal came up so we grabbed it). Some of the roadblocks overcome are below.
Maxed out circuits in the area - obtained 208V PDU to move 208V capable devices off of 120V circuits
Safety interlock for ventilation and air assist - @kbraby constructed a beautiful custom device to handle this
Active directory groups to track and permit trained users - @bscharff and @talkers collaborated on this
Damaged focus gauge and worn belts - obtained replacement parts from Epilog in Colorado
Now it’s down to the training for the new machine. It’s being worked on currently and classes are on the way. Check the events calendar for information on training and please be patient since everything is done by volunteers. Also thank you very much to everyone that has worked on this!
