It looks like the oven has moved again, and more stuff piled in the area.
That goes into the corner over where Lasers currently are located, if/when Lasers are moved.
We need that area for more member work benches.
Is there a place the “FREE to take” shelving and storage could go? Seems like Powder coating could be moved there, which would allow wood shop to annex that space for more tables.
There’s been an increase in powder coating use, so they need a big open area that preferably isn’t baking everyone attempting to wood work, and ceramics doesn’t need another kiln ![]()
Just a point of clarification: the south warehouse is common space owned by Logistics, not woodshop’s space to annex.
One of the many plans for the powder coating equipment is to place the oven directly opposite the spray cabinet. This would enable the oven to be opened so the spray rack rolls directly out of its cabinet and into the oven with no need to turn it to get into the oven. In addition there is a couple of racks and a closed door cabinet that hold supplies. And finally the powder spraying gun.
What powder needs is a space that is probably about 8’x12’ with a power drop for the oven, spray booth, spray gun, and miscellaneous tools. And the oven may have requirements for air gaps for fire code making it the space even larger. Trying to jam powder into whatever space is around is not respectful of those users.

My bad. It was just an idea to prevent a turf war. Moving the oven in front of the spray booth doesn’t seem feng shui, but does seem more appropriate in regards to cart rolling.
Hi @mysticturner. Powdercoating still belongs to the metal shop. If you have opinions on where and how we should locate it, you should please attend our monthly meetings. If you have, please disregard, I just don’t recognize you as someone I’ve met at the meetings. I did miss last week (maybe you attended?). I think the issue that has been raised is that it keeps getting moved without approval from the members of our committee
I’ve done some work in the metal shop and took the powder coating class. I was just passing along some hopes and dreams that got discussed in my class regarding the positioning of the two main cabinets along with having to run power across the floor.
I didn’t know that powder coating is under metal shop. I can check off learning something for today. Obviously it’s a committee along with logistics/space management decision. In my short time here, the oven has been repositioned several times, at least once IIRC with no input from your committee. Sorry if I stepped on any toes or said something incorrect.
BTW, we have met Max, I’m the bald guy with what used to be a red beard (now turning white).
