I put one up for Wednesday the 16th. It should be approved and appear in a few days.
I’d messed up the date, it’s now up at
https://calendar.dallasmakerspace.org/events/view/23044
I cannot find info on the Pexto shear on the wiki. Does this machine require training for use? I cannot find the large Baileigh shear.
The wiki is “historical”, and Source should be used instead for the latest info, including the Pexto shear info:
https://source.dallasmakerspace.org/display/METAL/Pexto+10-U-4+Power+Squaring+Shear
I don’t think the Baileigh shear on the wiki is the one you’re talking about, but that can be found on the Metal Shop Tools page:
https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Metal_shop_tools#Shear
I don’t find Baileigh info on Source.
The Baileigh stomp shear has been replaced by the Pexto.
HA! I mentally inserted “on the wiki” after the words that were actually in that section of the post.
Thank you for confirming the situation!
Is there another training class coming up? I am looking to sign up for DMS but I need to use the ironworker and belt sander. Do I need to wait for the next training class or is it possible to get cleared sooner? I used to own a full fab shop and had a scotchman ironworker so I am very familiar with metal shop equipment. Thanks!
I’m planning on scheduling a class after I get back, but I have no access to the calendar until I actually get back On November 6th.
Metal shop meetings are a good way to meet the committee and get training/tested out on the equipment. What are you trying to make?
I am making a custom bracket for the garage and I need to shear up some flat bar, punch some some holes (ideally, some square holes for carriage bolts) and maybe a slot for adjustment. I already designed most of it. I just need to see what punches/dies are available and then adjust and fab it up. I would like to powdercoat it as well. I plan to come check things out this Saturday at the open house.
When is the next meeting? I see machine shop meetings in events, but not metal shop.
It’s this Saturday at 3pm. There’s also the chair election. I’ve slacked a little bit on updating the calendar.
We have 1 full set of round punch dies in common sizes. We do not have a fully tooled machine unfortunately. You are welcome to purchase your own dies and use them in our machine. We also have a Cnc plasma cutter that could make your bracket.
I was planning to come see the metal shop at the morning open house, but I can make it there at 3 pm instead. I am not sure how it works getting in and badges and whatnot. Should I just ask for you when I get there?
Works for me. Ask for Metal Max. I’ll be there At 3.
