Making Lapel Pins class

Do we have a way to make custom lapel pins or anyone that can give a class on this?

Examples of what you’re interested in would help. 3D fab, Machine Shop, Laser, and Jewelry/Small Metals could all make “lapel pins”.

Get hold of Chris Carson. He knows how to make coins. A lapel pin is a 1 sided coin.

And we have any number of ways to make one in JSM, from casting in silver or bronze to cutting one from sheet metal with a saw and soldering the pin to the back.

I made over a 100 Sunday morning using dual layer acrylic.

Pin backs:
I used e6000. Switched to loctite epoxy because I needed faster curing time.

You can also use plastic, hardboard, or aluminum with a dye sub coating, cut it to shape and then do full color dye sublimation on it.

hmmm. I didn’t get one of those… j’accuse!

This would be a cool class. (Hint!)

Well I like the idea of using a sheet of bronze and cutting it out but got to make and paint it in bulk, could one just laser cut the blank first?

It would have to be a cross-committee class. I can see involving Laser, Wood Shop (since they are taking over the Shapoko after the expansion), Metal Shop, and even Jewelry/Small Metals. Crafting the custom blanks would be done outside of CA, and then the dye sub would be done in CA.

Couldn’t laser cut a blank in bronze, we don’t have a metal cutting laser. It would take a long time to saw them by hand with a jewelry saw. Might be able to cut them on the shapeoko.

Rumor has it we may be getting a donation of a fiber laser after expansion.
