First time Laser users not only learned how to use the Laser, but also how make a fancy box all by themselves. Most importantly, everyone makes both their own animal and a fancy box. From setting at the computer, to running the laser cutter.
First everyone went through the mini-“Laser Boot Camp”. Each member learned how to go from the Internet, all the way to creating a favorite animal.
Every attendee actually learns how to run the Laser by making their own wooden animal.
- Download animal graphic file from the Internet
- Import the file into Lightburn
- Apply the Lightburn auto-trace feaure to turn the bitmap image into a vector
- Scale the vector to nice size to cut
- Determine the correct laser settings to use based on the wod thickness
- Send the file to the Laser
- Load the file into the Laser machine buffer
- Load material to be cut.
- Set the Laser origin
- Verify it will cut where intended
- Fire the Laser and create the item.
These are Saturday’s mini-Laser Boot Camp graduates holding their class project animals that they made by themselves.
Now that they all know how to use the Laser, we moved on to the actual fancy box class. The class starts by learning how the box software works, and then making a simple box as a group project.
Next we moved forward with everyone taking turns deciding what they wanted to make and then personally making it. It is very cool watching members going from never having touched the Laser, to creating their very own items over the span of just three short hours.
Everyone had a great time and can’t wait to get started making.
