Looking for training on the Sherline lathe

I am cleared to use the wood lathes, but I believe that this is a different beast altogether and I’m leery to just give it a shot. I do have a class on Monday 2/2 for turning aluminum on a lathe, but I don’t know which one we’ll be using. Is there cross-talk between those skills?

Do I need to be signed off on this lathe specifically if I know how to turn with another CNC lathe and if so, who should I reach out to for training?

This is metal spinning not machining. You will need to take the Clausing Colechester lathe class before you can sign up for the CNC. I believe there should be a make up class coming up soon.

Ohhh okay. I didn’t think there was a non-CNC way to turn metal. I guess I’ll learn that firsthand soon. I will keep an eye out

Absolutely go to Max’s class on spinning. It will be worth it

I have since learned that metal spinning and metal turning are not at all the same thing. Still had fun though and it was definitely worth the experience.
(also I did find help with the Sherline. This class was the place to be)
