Looking for [PAID] help with CNC Routing of a 2x2ft HDPE Plate

Hi everyone,

My work colleagues (electronics/ robotics startup) are located in the DFW area and we are in need of getting 1 or several pieces of 2ft x 2ft 1/4” HDPE machined out. The usual prototyping places are giving outrageously high quotes, we’d prefer to work with someone local to DFW, and we really just need a maker with a Shapeoko or other CNC Router that can do the job, and we’re happy to pay a more reasonable price for the help. I also saw that Dallas Makerspace has a Shapeoko, so I was curious if a member would be interested in doing this for us. We could procure the material from estreetplastics for you, or you can get it yourself there or somewhere else, fully open to all options here.

The design is for a single 576mm square plate at ~6mm thick, there’s a lot of pockets to half depth, everything can be done with a 1/8" endmill or larger for roughing, and the only caveat is that we need a bunch of ~2.5mm holes in there, which I’d recommend getting the exact size drill bit for and peck drilling them. We’d prefer a more inexpensive plastic which is why I suggest HDPE. Delrin seemed much higher in price, and it should be an insulator so not aluminum/ other metals.

Anyways, we’d love to work with a local on this, we may need more copies or revisions of this cut for us in the future. Please reach out if you are able to help us with this job.

Thank you!
Ray

Hi,

I can help you with this project. I’ve got my own machine, and I’ve also got experience milling HDPE and with prototyping. I’ve already got a 2.5mm carbide drill bit. Technically I’ve also got a full sheet of 1/4" HDPE, but I’d prefer to keep it intact since it makes a good table top. I’d be happy to pick up from estreetplastics and charge you the prorated amount.

Let’s start with one part. If it works out in terms of tolerances, turnaround time etc. then I’d be happy to help with fabricating prototypes or revisions. You can reach me via PMs, or at my DMS email: aanne3 (at) dallasmakerspace dot org.

A (grungy) HDPE jig for milling sheet metal parts. I peck drilled some holes for self-threading screws. It also has pockets to stop the metal pieces from sliding around.

An enclosure which I designed and fabricated.

That is nice work.

Hey Aditya, I’m here now at DMS to pick up the part. I’m having trouble reaching you by call and email so hopefully you see this.
