Actually, due to my lack of training and a short time frame, I am looking for someone to let me watch and learn as they work on something I need done on the metal CNC router. I have a graphic that I am wanting to do a shallow etching of on the end of a 1 1/4" diameter 5" (edited, thanks!) long round cold rolled steel rod.
The purpose of this endeavor is that I do moneying (making coin dies and striking coins), normally with punchwork, but this design is fancy enough I want to engrave it. If I had a shallow groove to base my cuts on, it would make for a much nicer piece.
I have the graphic and the steel already, and can share in more detail with anyone interested in helping me with this project. I would also definitely be willing to buy dinner or barter with or pay someone for assistance.
Thanks for your time,
Wayne

Did you mean 1.25 inch by 5 inch ? If you have a 5 foot long piece and want to machine the end of it, I’m pretty sure that won’t fit in the CNC mill. If inches, then someone who is checked out on the machine might be able to help.

Thanks Todd!
Yep. Awkward typo. 1 1/4 INCHES by 5 INCHES. My bad.

I wondered. Milling the end of a 5 foot cylinder would be quite a challenge.
Are you sure you want to use cold rolled? It does not wear very well compared to a hardenable steel. I wouldn’t expect to get much use from a CRS die.

The main reason is that I have it on hand. =)
I’ve used cold rolled for a long time, with thousands of struck coins on several dies, with minimal wear.
This project is being done as a gift, so I have a deadline (the end of May). Hoping someone can help. If not, I’ll go to a backup plan.
