Locksmith, lock pick, lock sport, lock forensics…

Is there enough interest to have an informal lock* group at DMS?

Locksmithing: making locks and keys
Lock picking: opening said locks without their keys
Locksport: opening locks the quickest
Lockpick Forensics: identifying picked locks vs normally operated locks

This might eventually include access control systems and opening them.

If you are interested…lemme know. I’d be open to starting something like this at DMS. We’d probably meet monthly-ish.

I’d be interested in both lockpicking and forensics. Anything to do with access control systems too

I’d be up for it. I’m embarrassed to admit how many hours I’ve spent watching Lockpicking Lawyer videos.

The class I have planned would also include the ethics of lock picking based on TOOOL bylaws .

I’ve got an event scheduled for

Tue Feb 24 6:30pm — 7:30pm in the North Lobby for us to talk about this once it’s approved by the powers that be.

Let’s figure out our structure, what our goals are, figure out if there’s a path to committeeship or SIGship, and go from there.

I would be glad to join in! I am a Certified Forensic Locksmith, and I have a dozen or so little forensics kits that I used to teach with - they have have been gathering dust in my closet for far too long. Looking forward to getting together!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to join yesterday - how did it go and what are the next steps? I’d be curious to join, too!

We had a really great meeting.

Kevin Oliver gave us a great presentation about lock picking.

There’s enough interest to put this on the calendar every month. I’ll try to put one up for the same time (Last Tuesday night of the month).

Kevin Oliver graciously let us have some initial lockpick kits and some locks to start our little lockbrary.

I think next month I’ll give a presentation on lock impressioning.

I may have some stuff I can bring if this is happening on Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing more of this.

It sorta happened. Ian had an emergency assist to run to and he was bringing all the goodies to play with. But about 8 of us showed up. Max had some weird locks we tried to pick. A nubie successfully picked his first lock, a Master. Great lock for building confidence. We’ll see what happens next month.
