There are some project logs out there on that very subject.
I gather that they’re really freaking bright at full power, thus you need to tone it down for a clock.

Unfortunately what they are not mentioning is that each filament in there is slightly less than 1 watt. But they look cool!!

Ohh shiny, those are cool. They says they are 8.5 watts, that’s a fair amount of dies! Damn you @Nick ! 
There are a few special shaped ones that I have found, but they seem to all be for car running lights by design.

Look like something to make crazy art with. We need a zigzag LED wall at DMS if you ask me.
With transparent Velcro over the LEDs, a Velcro suit, and a trampoline.
Then flash the LEDs REALLY fast and do stop motion.
But I digress.

@Lampy, what does the color rendering look like? When you put your hand under it, does it look pretty natural, or is it a bit off?
