Next time you are at DMS, take a look at the leather case for the controller on the CNC in the Wood Shop. I made that case. In a similar fashion: a (3D printed plastic) buck to mold the leather over, a wooden frame over the outside to press the wet leather down, dried, trimmed, and stitched to the other leather back.
Similarly, these knife sheaths were wet formed over a wooden buck to mold the leather to the appropriate shape.
