Hi y’all,
I recently bought some rather nice silk lined leather gloves, but a couple of the fingers are a bit too long. Otherwise they fit fine. I’d like to shorten those fingers a bit, is this the kind of thing a novice might be able to undertake? I tried doing a bit of research online, but so far I’m not finding much about doing this specific kind of alteration. If anyone can point me to instructions or just has some tips I’d appreciate it!
Thanks in advance.

Sounds pretty tricky to me. Does the silk lining have its own seams?

I have yet to turn them inside out. I’ll give it a look once I get home. They are a bit on the nicer side, so I may end up asking for advice on leather alteration places in town too.

One of the best ways I learned how to alter clothing was to make my own, including drafting the pattern. I’m not sure you want to dive that deeply, but making kid gloves sounds like a fun rabbit hole…

So in some places like the large seam going down the arm, it matches up with those of the leather, but on the hand it seems to have its own seams.
While I’d like to learn more, I’m not sure I have the time to really dig deep, unfortunately.
Greetings. If you want to pursue this, I can tell you the steps, but it would need to be in a separate email because of the length, or I am at DMS most days and can show you in person there. It is some work, but most things are, and what you learn goes with you as well as your gloves. I can be found in or around the sewing room in Creative Arts, or over in VECTOR sometimes. Bring the gloves.
