Is it appropriate to offer to pay other members for work?

I have some relatively simple cnc aluminum milling that needs to be done, and I’d like to work with a more experienced mill operator on it. I can build the tool paths in Fusion if I know what bits to use in order to reduce the programming workload for the operator.

Also as a new member I just generally would like to know if it’s appropriate to make posts like this.

So I don’t have anything against it in machine shop. However it is important to remember that it is between the two of you and NOT the Makerspace. I will also say, the member doing the work will likely CAM the part to ensure there is not an issue.

Gotcha! Thanks for the response. Yes I definitely agree that the DMS is not liable or involved in any of the agreements made.

Should I just post the request in the machining forum?

You can try it.

To my knowledge we don’t have a lot of people that would be willing to take it on. Xometry or Send Cut Send are probably better suited for your needs depending on what it is.

Payment around the space takes many forms. Sometimes it’s cash, often food, offering someone help on their project, or teach them something you know.

The category we usually recommend for trading goods/services is MakerTrade
Unless it’s commercial, then more Job Listings

The one exception is paying for automotive work. Verboten!
