IoT Cellular Plans

Hello fellow makers,

I’m looking for an inexpensive cellular data plan for IoT devices.

Expected usage is a few megabytes per year, mostly for reporting sensor data every few hours.

Bandwidth isn’t super critical - 10 kbps would be more than adequate.

Best I’ve found so far are these:

Has anyone found any good plans that might fit that use case?

Google Fi has “data SIMs” that you can add to your plan that shares data with your phone plan.

You can add 5 data SIMs per account, so unless you need more than 5 devices that should do what you need quite well.

https://ting.com/ used to have some great data only plans for people doing IoT stuff.

And for eUICC capabilities:

How many devices are you thinking?

I was going to try out one of these soon https://sixfab.com/hardware/
Should I report back?

Take a look at Twilio. NB-IoT plans at $2/month per SIM. Super easy way to get started. You can beat carriers up over pricing once you have volume. I have seen coverage as low as 50 cents per device per month.

This is great to know - will keep this in mind. Thanks for the idea.

Not totally certain yet, but somewhere between 1-20 would be super cool.

That looks like a nifty device! I’d definitely like to hear how it turns out.

Great info! I’d not heard of eUICC, but looks super useful. Some of the comments here suggest Ting once had an IoT plan, but https://iot.ting.com now just redirects to ting.com .
