Interest Check: Solidworks basics class or Design for 3D printing?

Hi y’all, I’m interested in teaching a class on the basics of SolidWorks. I wanted to know if anyone would be interested in attending. My biggest concern is that it seems like the computers at DMS cannot run the maker version of SolidWorks, and it seems there are issues getting the 2017 version to work (please correct me if I am wrong). So to follow along, you would have to bring your own laptop.

I can also teach a class on design for 3D printing. How you should design/make changes to 3D models for optimal printing quality. It would also include design tips for postprocessing, 3d printing, tolerances, etc.

Let me know if you are interested!

We are in the process of getting Solidworks sorted out. We are almost there. We are waiting for license approval ( it’s been submitted to Solidworks). Once we get a couple more licenses, we will have the process documented. It is not straightforward as you would think.

I would be very interested in taking your class. What other modeling software packages are available at DMS currently that could be used to make some simple models for 3-D printing.

Blender is the first software that comes to mind for me…

i am working on learning free cad and when i do i will start teaching class,=. if you want to learn cad basic and want to work along side of me we can do it .

im interested in the 3D priting stuff!
I work a lot in zbrush and blender but dont really know much of 3D priting.

I would love for us to get some zbrush licenses

I use solidworks a couple of times / year to design something for fabrication. I’m entirely self taught so I’m sure there are many things I’m missing. I am interested in learning from someone with more experience.

I would love to learn SolidWorks!

I’m also using FreeCAD to design my first project. My problem is a lingo barrier. I can look at plans and understand what I see, but when all the technical drafting terms start flying around I get left behind. So I’m interested in a class as well. Not concerned about which package but more how.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I’ll probably start with a class about design for 3D printing. Then whenever the solidworks licenses get approved and sorted i can do the basics of Solidworks!

If you have any days of the week/times that work best please reply or send me a message. Then if there is anything information about 3d modeling for 3d printing you are specifically learning to more please tell me as well!
