Hey everyone!
I’m finally getting around to working on the new Intercom Speakers to be used for class announcements, emergencies, etc.
The question is “where should be put them?” You tell me! The red dots in the picture below are locations that I’d go with, but I’m 100% open to suggestions!
Brooks,
Nice job with the graphics! Very professional looking…
How about an intercom in the metal shop as it can be loud in there?

Thanks! It totally wasn’t copied from the wiki and modified with MS Paint… hehe
Anyways, I’m hesitant to install speakers in the Metalworking room because it’s often loud in there. I can’t turn up individual speakers since they all go to the same receiver… just one big volume knob!
How will the speakers be controlled? Will it be a text to speech program like at the old space? Will there a limit on the frequency of announcements?
There’s two ways to announce to it:
- Call the Intercom extension on a DMS phone
- Plug in an audio device to the receiver (a computer running the announcement system)
I hesitate to put speakers in any shop with hazardous equipment. Sudden, loud sounds might startle someone. Besides, it is loud in the shops.
We already purchased the speakers - the old space had a speaker installed in the warehouse and it didn’t cause any trouble.

Okay, then put in an audio drop in there going to an amp with an adjustable knob for volume so that it can be varied accordingly. And if you are worried about startling someone, perhaps we could have a continuous audio loop of heavy breathing in the background…
…or is that too creepy?

I didn’t get any money from the board for that, and I feel that’s just unnecessary.
