In Progress Discards: 6-09-2026

CERAMIC DEPARTMENT RULES and ENFORCEMENT

Shelf Time Limits

DMS Ceramic Shelves (In Progress, Bisque, Glazed and Needs Attention), allow 21 days for your items to remain on shelves and allow 7 days for projects to remain on bats.

Labeling Your Work

Be sure to label items with your name and the date. We have an electronic labeler that automatically prints a label that includes your initials and the 21-day date range. Wave your entry fob in front of machine and a label will print. If labeler is not working, write your name/initials and the date on a piece of tape. If you write your own date, DO NOT put a future date. Put the date you placed the item on the shelf.

Unlabeled pieces will be considered abandoned and are immediately discarded.

Place ware board on the shelf so that your name/date label is facing the front of the shelf. If it is easily accessible, we don’t have to handle your piece trying to locate your label.

Items on Throwing Bats

Please remove Items on bats within 7 days. After this time, they’ll be considered abandoned and will be discarded. Before returning the bat to the storage table, please wash it in the sink. The 21-day allowance DOES NOT apply to items on BATS. Your project must be removed from the bat within 7 days to avoid being thrown away.

Additional Ceramics Space Guidelines

~Always wash your bat in the sink before putting it back on the shelf.

~Place only bone-dry items on the GREENWARE shelves.

~Don’t store bisqueware, clay, or glazed items on the In-Progress shelves. Please take these home or place on the proper shelf so they don’t get discarded.

~If you are using the wheel, sweep/mop up clay around the wheel as part of your clean up. Be sure to clean up your mess before leaving DMS space.

~Don’t leave empty ware boards on the In-Progress shelves.

If you can’t find your item, check the Ceramics Kiln News TALK thread, Discard posts, and the Needs Attention shelf.

Thank you so much for helping us keep the ceramics studio clean and running smoothly for everyone. If you have any questions, please ask here on TALK…we’re here to help!
