Hovercraft One Day Build Proposal

How many people would be interested in participating in a one day hackathon to build a very simple hovercraft? If the below idea sounds like something you would want to attend, reply to the poll on when you want it to happen. If this sounds like a bad idea, you should ignore the poll.

  • Open to DMS members only, free to attend
  • Teams of ~4 people will compete to build a hovercraft (limit of ~4 teams)
  • Each team will be provided a leaf blower and a $100 home depot gift card at the start of the day
  • After 8 hours all teams will be judged on some combination of weight carrying capacity, locomotion, and style. Winner will get a tiny trophy
  • You are free to use your own resources on top of what is provided, but everything needs to be constructed from raw materials that day
  • DMS keeps the stuff bought by DMS funds and after a short amount of time to admire your creation they will be destroyed and liquidated

Hmm, not much interest, back the drawing board I guess.

FWIW I think this is really cool, and would love to be able to take part, but cannot commit. Kind of the story of my life, presently.
I know that doesn’t keep the ball rolling, but I guess I’m trying to say “Good Find! Wish I were there!”.

Ditto. Near New Year’s is a difficult time to commit because of work.

I love this idea and I would love to be part of a team. I’m full of “growth opportunity” when it comes to building things that actually work. Keep pushing it will catch on.
