Honey do list for Dms to be complete before September 17th 2016 - project high and tight

We have a very important hot date coming up and they are coming over to look at our house. September 17th! Time to tidy up and present ourselves in the best possible light to the public. I believe each committee should post a to-do list here along with general areas. Although it might sounds strange to post things this way without a list things will be left off and people won’t openly volunteer to complete a task.
This is a very important date for the continued success and growth of Dms. Let’s generate a list of to-dos and small tasks, publish them both here and on paper, volunteer to knock a few out, and use positive peer pressure to get others to join in. Feel free to add to the list. If you want to take on the task please claim it by saying “Nicole will take on …”

Kitchen/galley:
Contact the food company and make sure they come in to stock before September 17th
Take the aluminum recycling to the recycling center or deal with it in some way to get that container looking like it’s not vomiting metal shards.
Trash taken out the morning of Sept17th.
Open shelves organized to be less visually chaotic - lots of random items that have been collected.
Vinyl cut with rules to fridge usage (currently on a piece of paper taped to the outside) and put on the outside of the fridge.
Let’s treat ourselves to some dish soap and a new scrubber - please.
General cabinet purge. We are collecting some strange bits and pieces and might as well do a nice once a year clean out while the energy is high. Purge out of date anything, obviously pigeon holed strange thingsthat people have forgotten about, take a serious look at what’s behind the cabinets.
Floors mopped, tables cleaned, counters cleaned Septemeber 16th.

Is there a properly functioning vacuum in the space? Especially one that is appropriate for classroom sized vacuuming? That little Dyson one has seen better days. I’ve tried to use it to clean up some chairs and floors, and it was like trying to use a slotted spoon when I really needed a backhoe.

Clean it up and use it again - that thing is a beast!

Bailey (with a little help from me) cleaned up the rechargeable Dyson a couple days ago and she cleaned the CA floor pretty quickly. Seemed to be working just fine

We have reached out to the cleaning company to see about steam cleaning the floors, hopefully get rid of the stains.

Any want to try resurfacing and finishing the tables in the common area? I can’t as I have already over committed my self to things, but if some else could, that would be great.

I will take on the cabinet purge and the open shelf organization. I’ll be by on Tuesday. If you have a coffee cup please let me know. I’ll put a box together with questionable items and see if they are claimed to stay in the kitchen - Ill give it a week or so before I take action.

We have discussed having someone make a vinyl sticker for the rear door that says something like: Member entrance only. Visitors to the front.

This would be particularly useful to have it in place before the open House, unless we intend to temporarily put a waiver kiosk at the rear door.

Do we plan to temporarily put a waiver kiosk at the rear door?

I’d love some of the aluminum shavings if it is cool to take them. I’m not trying to recycle them for money, instead I would use them as metal sparks for pyrotechnics. Is that cool?

Does it matter if they are contaminated with cutting fluid?

It might make a difference, but it shouldn’t make them useless.

That’s all metal shops decision. I’m taking about the black aluminum recycling center we have in the kitchen area.

I think we should save some of it for a petri culture.
What type of resurfacing are you talking about? Are you looking for someone to sand and revarnish?

We also get deliveries at rear door. Not sure how to signage that.

Open house parking will be everywhere, as was last year. Maybe temp sign asking all members to park in back, but over flow guest went to back last year. But I think a kiosk can/should be set up at rear, people will be coming that way because door will be opening a lot.

@StanSimmons. Can laptops be temporarily set up as waiver stations so we have more of them?

Ideally, Sanding and re finishing them. Some of the tables have this black crud built up on them. Also using windex over the years on the Waterlox was bad for the finish and made it soft/stick. So we should use another finish or a combination of finishes. I will leave that to whomever decides to do the work.

I have a couple of Android tablets that can be used for Waivers at the back door. There is a Windows client, but Robert says that it isn’t very good. I’ve got the Android client installed on one tablet and it works fine, I’ll have at least one, hopefully two for the back entrance for Sept 17.

I think this is a really good idea. Thanks to @Photomancer for suggesting it and thanks to you for implementing it.

With the doors open so much that day, I’m sure we will have various people wandering in and out and some of them will not be motivated to go around to the front.

I just picked up dish soap and a new scrubber brush thingy. I’ll drop them off tonight.

Ha. I came down last night but forgot to being the soap and brush. I’ll bring them later today or tonight, along with a nice monitor for @uglyknees.

Thank you so very much for your kindness.

@uglyknees I hooked up your new monitor yesterday morning  I apologize for not untangling the horrible mess of cords that the old monitor’s power cord is tied up in. I was in a rush to get to court in Grapevine and didn’t have time to mess with it. I got my case dismissed
