So I had * Sub Code 3 – Replace transmission fluid and transfer fluid (if applicable) pop up on my Civic a few weeks ago. I’m just over 50k miles and haven’t had it replaced before. I called the Dealer that also sent me a coupon for a free oil change (have taken my car there before) and they quoted me $249.99 since it’s a CVT. I haven’t called around yet to get quotes/see if that’s a normal price.
Is this something ya’ll recommend just getting it done at a shop? Or is this something ya’ll usually do yourselves?
(I also have Code 7 about brake fluid on there but when I called the Dealer to ask about prices they said they did that last year for me and must have just forgotten to reset the minder properly?)
Luckily I have a free oil change so that’s all good, but for the transmission fluid I’m at 50k and haven’t ever had it done. I’m not sure how easy it is to do. I guess I’ll watch some videos and see how I feel about it. I’m not particularly car savvy for all that I’ve changed an alternator and battery and tires before. There is something about messing with fluids that’s makes me more cautious. As and not because it’s messy.
I think part because I’ve never had a garage or driveway to do anything messy in before so no experience
That’s very kind of you. Let me look in to where to get the OEM fluid and how long it will take if I need to get it shipped. Is there anything else I need to purchase you think? I haven’t spent any time in automotive at DMS so I’m not totally sure what tools/gear are available.
@TLAR suggested I post this so y’all can get an eye full of a recent dealership ‘recommended’ list and prices. SMH. It’s about $8k total when my fam and I added it up
Wow that is an unhinged level of upsell. Preying on people’s ignorance that the “dealer recommendations” are not the same as the manufacturer recommendations.
If anyone is considering decarbonization, I offer my services to perform an Italian tune up on your vehicle for the low, low price of $149.99. Come to a motorsports meeting to learn more!
We use a proprietary technique, involving putting the engine under load then applying the foot-based throttle control interface to introduce copious amounts of air and fuel into the motor which are then pumped through up to 7000 times per minute. This increases intake valve temperature above 600 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking down those pesky carbon deposits for good.
I keep taking my car there for free oil changes and having to tell them no on everything else. Except getting my a/c fixed when it was dead and Honda finally released a bulletin (aka free).
But every time I do they try and sell me a bunch of nonsense. I’m too frugal to just say yes I’m sure they also think since I own an EX-T model of civic I will fall into the trap of thinking I need way more care for the ‘Turbo 1.5L’, because Vroom
My service agent this time was a woman though, and other than hand me that sheet and the keys she said ‘bye’ and went back to what she was doing. Didn’t try and walk me through the sheet or anything. It was nice.
