FYI regarding Donner disconnecting

I’m on Donner today and it has disconnected from the computer twice.

When sending a job from RDWorks to Donner a “can’t connect” message pops up. Rebooting the computer fixes this. At least it did for me today twice.

This problem usually happens from ether the laser program having issues communicating with Windows or its the USB cable that runs to the laser. There is typically an updated driver the laser software will run better with. This happens from all of the updates from Windows. Or a new cable is needed the shorter the better. This is the issues I have in my shop at my day job.

I’m gonna guess it’s the cable and using an extender on it

USB 2.0 standards limits the high speed USB cable length to 5 meters.

USB 3.0 recommendation is 3 meters if the cable is high quality.

Is the cable + extender cable more than that?

Perhaps we should switch to a repeater cable or put a powered hub in between to get around the length limit.
