Fix Loose Door Handle?

A handle to one of my exterior doors has developed a lot of “play” in it over time…I can jiggle it about 10 or 15 degrees without it affecting the latch. This is only a problem because sometimes something shifts or sticks and the latch then won’t move/slide at all, preventing the door from being able to be closed. Note the play and also where the handle sort of “sticks” when rotated upward:

So…is this something I can fix without replacing, or is the mechanism shot and I need to replace with a new one? (I am trying to avoid any unnecessary “exploratory surgy” and bork it even more and then not be able to lock the door at all!)

Not a guarantee, but I had a similar door knob that I could tighten up the skewer bits attached to the knob. If the bolt bit is the culprit, I would guess you can’t just tighten it up.

Long story short: I think you’re stuck with exploratory surgery. I’d just go buy a new knob and return it next trip if you didn’t need it.

Edit: and buy a knob! That wrong way lever just kills my OCD
