Agenda

1.Introduction
Sign In: Five members in attendance

2. What changes, if any, should we make to the agenda?
Added discussion of Clay Recycling

3. Does the committee have any old business that needs to be addressed?
Reviewed recent purchases and the cost of the kiln repair.

4. Event Review: @cmcooper0
Kiln Maintenance Day: Many thanks to those that came out (@Shirley, @JasonM314, @Anette_Henningson). Successfully ground down and rewashed most of our shelves allowing us a more efficient use of space during firings. Vacuumed out the kilns and cleaned up the kiln furniture shelves removing a lot of metal left over from the Foundry days.
Glass SIG Inventory: Announced this upcoming event. [Completed, big thanks to @Kathryn_Bredderman, @Kriskat30.] Reduced the storage area and evaluated existing glass supplies.

5. Ceramics SIG Report: @shirley
Discussion of classes and class development. December classes scheduled: Holiday Ornaments, Yarn Bowls, Polyhedral Slab Building, Glaze Basics. Requests regarding glazes, number stamps, glaze pencils.

6. Glass SIG Report: @kathryn_bredderman
Good responses from Talk, a lot of interest in classes. Discussion of cross-committee events/classes (Glass fused pendants in conjunction with Jewelry, etc.).

7. Firing Team Report: @dryad2b , @cmcooper0
Discussion of adding Firing Team @DMS group (Solution: Expand Team_Fired_Arts@DMS to cover SIG leaders and Firing Team members.)
Two new Firing Team Members proposed: Stanton Melvin, Shirley Reeves. Both were approved by committee to begin learning more about our community firings with the future goal of being cleared for independent community firing.

8. Report on new Maintenance Closet Sink: @FrenchFrog
Ingrid called the manufacturer and got the full dimensions of the sink and it looks like it will also work for FA needs.

9. Works Shelves Rules: @cmcooper0
New Rule: All abandoned greenware, bisqued and glazed work left over 30 days becomes property of the DMS Fired Arts Committee.

Discussed and approved. This will be implemented after Thanksgiving and appropriate signage and notification will be going out for all existing works on the shelves. This will apply at each stage where further action on the project is in the hands of the creator. This does not apply to items awaiting firing. For any exceptions, you must contact The FA Chair or the Ceramics SIG Leader to have the item marked. We are very understanding and will work with you if something aberrant comes up. Two items that will help with this will be the Maker’s Mark Log and the In Progress Projects Log which will be maintained by the Ceramics SIG Leader. These will also be implemented after Thanksgiving.

10. Space Infrastructure Changes: @cmcooper0
Proposal for Funding to be presented at the November Board Meeting.

11. When should we schedule our monthly committee meetings?: @cmcooper0
We will be scheduling on a month by month basis, to be decided upon at the prior monthly meeting. Next meeting: Tuesday, December 12th.

12. Recycling: @cmcooper0
Discussion regarding the future of clay recycling in the committee area. The process takes up a large amount of physical space and only benefits a few. The rate of use from the current Free Clay container is very slow. However, we don’t want to stop offering free clay for drop in users, preliminary works, classes, etc. Considering the possibilities of teaching a class on how to recycle your own clay and using the honorariums to supplement the donated/abandoned clay with basic, white stoneware (100#: $42). Requesting further opinions before final decision is made.

14. What did we do well for this meeting? What should we do differently?: @cmcooper0
Apparently we were all awesome and no changes requested, go us! Fired Arts rules.
