Hi there! I do custom jewelry locally and have made these types of heirloom pieces in the past.
When it comes to fingerprint jewelry, there are generally two routes you can take: traditional hand engraving (bright cutting) or precision laser engraving. While laser engraving is what you usually find online at very competitive prices, I suggest hand engraving for a memorial piece because of the incredible depth and life it gives the metal.
Here is a side-by-side comparison so you can see the difference yourself:
- On the left (Hand Engraved): The deep, angled cuts create a nice, dimensional sparkle that catches the light beautifully and won’t wear down.
- On the right (Laser Engraved): This gives you a highly precise, uniform, and flat replica of the print, but it lacks that deep, and the artisanal look and texture.
