I noticed back in September 2025 there’s a post that mentions the embroidery machine being broken, and there’s no posts after that about if it’s been fixed. Is the embroidery machine working, and if so, what time could someone teach me how to use the machine? I’m looking to do embroidery on plushie pattern pieces.
We have a sewing Sig meeting tomorrow at 7pm and this is on the agenda.
We did hear in our CA meeting that the Viking is broken and parts are no longer being made for it.
I did learn we have a Brothers embroidery machine but that’s on Phase III of maintenance of the machines in the room. Unsure if that is running or not but we will know tomorrow.

Also forgot to mention, our Digital Media team is installing Inkscape on their machines so that will be helpful for embroidery files in the future
Interesting. What’s the work flow to get from an SVG file to an executable embroidery file? I assume you mean using the SVG as the raw input to SewArt64?
Inkscape has an extension InkStitch (Which is also being installed on those computers), which allows you to do full embroidery stitch management through it.

That’s something Digital Media will be able to help you with! They came to our meeting and announced it so I’m providing that update tonight the sewing Sig.

In Sig meetings were not required to take minutes but we did discuss it. The Brothers machine is working, but members have to be signed off to use it.
I thought Beth was offering to put up a class? You can get signed off by taking the class.

Awesome that the machine’s working! I can attend a class on it at either of those times, whichever one ends up being chosen for it.

Is the Viking still usable for just plain sewing? I have a need … but it does not include embroidery.
Yes! The issue was that it quit reading the hoop size. Machine should still be functional.

I do not know this answer. It didn’t come up in our meeting if we would keep the Viking or not. If you are planning on sewing go ahead and plug it in and let us all know if it has any use or is officially Dead.
I’m curious too. I learned last night a SIG doesn’t make sell/buy decisions on equipment and it has to go to the Committee meeting for a vote. So please come to the Committee meeting!!
