Electronics / Testing Technician at local hardware start-up

Overview

We are looking for a jack of all trades technician with electronics assembly and soldering experience. As a startup that is building cutting edge position tracking technology, we simultaneously test, design, and ship new hardware. You would be expected to hand assemble PCBs and solder SMT components (down to 0201 and BGA packages), build and operate test equipment, test & debug products, setup jobs on our CNC machine, organize/manage lab spaces, and more.

We are looking for a motivated, hard working individual who is quick to learn and a team player. Also, if you are someone who wants to grow and contribute in many areas, even some that are not included in this job description, then Ommo is the place for you.

Responsibilities

  • SMT & Through Hole PCB Assembly (by hand)
  • Soldering of SMT parts, including 0201 & BGA components, and custom cables
  • Assist with debugging and difficult fixes on PCB prototypes
  • Test incoming product and maintain reports/ spreadsheets of issues
  • Operate test equipment and run calibration & validation tests on a regular basis
  • Prepare, test, and pack hardware for customer shipments
  • Maintain test logs, organize test data, and perform some light data analysis
  • Cut material and setup jobs on the CNC (supervision and training provided)
  • Clean, organize, and improve lab spaces.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on soldering/ electronics experience
  • Dedicated and Hardworking
  • Quick to learn and interested in growing skills & knowledge
  • High School Diploma or GED
    • Associates degree (2yr) preferred but not required
  • Experience in a lab or testing environment
  • Experience collecting & analyzing data

Hand solder 0201 and BGA? Jeez. Especially the BGA - how do you do /that/?

Toaster oven and bead paste, if you get them close they just straighten out when it flows-magical!

Yep, then if you’re a good shop you rinse the solder balls out with distilled water and rebake.

Lol. That’s cheating. He said hand soldering. I know how to use a toaster oven to reflow!

Edit: well technically he didn’t say hand-solder but he used the term solder right there next to hand-assemble. Close enough. Lol.

For this they should have an infrared reflow unit to focus the heat where it’s needed.

You’d have to be able to clean PCBs and chips… and reball them. Hopefully they provide budget for things like stencils, solder balls, flux, kapton tape, etc…

This sounds too much like real work for my liking!
