Respect other members’ builds. Consider asking first before modifying them or building directly next to them. If you’re unsure, try looking for a clear area far away from other builds.
The area bounded by (0,0), (0,4000), (4000,4000), and (4000,0) is intended to be a permanent part of the server and is meant for permanent builds. Treat it as such.
Each server will at some point have a spawn jail, as a first-line defense against griefing. If you intend to play with us, you will need to notify me of your Minecraft account name, real-world name, email address (optional), and Talk account name (optional). Providing your email address will be taken as a sign that you want to be contacted via email if there’s an urgent announcement or major issue that you’re involved in. These will hopefully be very rare occurrences. Providing your Talk name simply allows me to figure out who on Talk corresponds to which in-game account. All collected information will be shared with other server moderators/ops, but will not be shared further than that or used for unrelated purposes. You can give me this information by one of the following methods:
- Find me tonight at DMS and give me your information.
- Drop me an email at [email protected] from an address that was used on the old mailing list.
- For members who were not on the old mailing list, please either find me in-person at DMS or ask any member who was on the old mailing list to drop me an email with your info that confirms that you’re a member.
If a non-members who wish to play, a member will need to contact me to vouch for them - and will be responsible for any bad behavior. Please don’t vouch for anyone you don’t know well enough to firmly believe they’ll be excellent to other players.
Additional Tekkit Server Rules
Use of quarries is discouraged within the permanent area unless it’s for a particular architectural purpose, like for clearing out a large basement for your permanent base. Don’t just leave holes in the permanent area because you’re strip mining. Use of quarries is also discouraged near the origin point (0,0). Be excellent about it.
Anchors are cheap and I don’t want to end up with 1000 chunks of terrain loaded at all times. Use of anchors is allowed, but be excellent about it. Temporary anchors (like to keep quarries going while you’re offline) are fine, but don’t forget about them. If you want to run an anchor permanently at your base, talk to me about it first and make sure I know where it is.
This is only the first draft of these rules. Expect them to change as needed.
Youll need to run the game from a tekkit launcher to get to :25561. playing from the normal minecraft launcher wont work.
I havent used pocket edition in a very long time but I dont know that it can connect with the pc versions, much like the ps4 cant play with the xbox one version.
Michael, sorry for not responding last night. Pearce, thanks for getting that.
I believe the versions we’re running are Tekkit for client 1.6.4 and vanilla for client 1.8.3. You’d need Technic pack to play on the Tekkit server. You can get that here:
On either server, don’t build very close to the spawn point. When I set up a spawn jail around each server’s spawn point, I will need to clear out builds in the immediate area.
On the Tekkit server, unless you’re very familiar with Dimensional Doors, don’t go in the random shiny doors that show up around the map. These go to pocket dimension where, if you die, you end up in Limbo. Getting out of Limbo is a tricky proposition, even for an experienced player. As we have more resources, I plan to try to make it easier to get out of Limbo, but we’re just not that advanced yet. If you do get stuck in there while I’m on Minecraft, I can make a very feeble attempt to help you out, but that’s all I can promise at this stage.
I thought to get out of Limbo you just keep dropping down until you find “water”. Once you touch it, you are teleported to a random place in the world.
It’s been a while since I’ve played though, so my info might be wrong.
I read that somewhere, but the first time I tried it I just died and lost all my stuff. I haven’t really felt like trying it since then. Maybe I’ll drop all my inventory in a chest in the overworld some time soon and try it again.
There was some confusion about the identification steps I outlined in the server rules, so I’d like to try to clarify.
Unfortunately, it’s very easy to grief other players in Minecraft. And since so much info about DMS is public, including a lot of member names, it’s possible, even easy, for literally any random person with Internet access to find a member’s name and pose as that person. It’s also possible for anyone to use this forum. So, unfortunately, those forms of ID aren’t enough by themselves to determine if someone is actually a member.
I also do not have access to member registration data, so I can’t verify email addresses that way. Even if I did, it would surely be a breach of privacy to use that information for such purpose, since the Minecraft servers are technically mine, not property of DMS.
The safest alternative would be to have absolutely everyone verify their identity in-person by approaching me at DMS to give me their information, but that would be a very cumbersome process by itself. But a lot of members still have an email address they used on the old forums. I added the old-mailing-list-email approach as a shortcut because it would be difficult for a random individual from Internet land to obtain access to one of those accounts. At the very least, it would probably be too much trouble to hack someone’s email account just to grief our Minecraft server, especially when we can just roll back 15 minutes and fix it.
The point of this, of course, is to guarantee a minimally-acceptable level of social accountability. I can’t force everyone who plays with us to behave excellently, but making sure at least one member vouches for anyone who plays with us goes a very long way.
