DMS Metal Shop safety class

I am wanting to take the tig class to learn to weld but it says i need the “DMS Metal Shop safety class”, but I don’t see one. Is it under a different name?

Welding Safety - sometimes Hot Work Safety (or both).

You’re in luck - there is one Thursday night.

I want to take the safety class too, but I’m not seeing another one on schedule. Is there one that will be scheduled soon?

Thanks!!

I don’t see one right now. Perhaps someone from @Team_Metal_Shop can chime in.

As a suggestion, an additional way to search for the class if you’re uncertain of the name, is to filter for the “room”. Even if someone forgot to put the tool or category on it, they have to reserve a room. Anything welding-related is going to be in Metalworking Workshop.

Not so, at least whenever I do it, because it’s a “class”, not a “lab”, i.e. no hands on. We do walk the Metal Shop, but we do it at the mercy of those using it (so far they’ve always been very kind to us and our fingerpoken).
But we should always include the categories “welding” and “metal working”.
When I do mine, they look just like this

Malcom’s usually look like this:

I’m not sure on others’.
But if you scan/search/skim/whatever for “hot” it should be on the list (but the category thing will probably work better).

My apologies for not having gotten one on the calendar. I meant to have done it already, but life sometimes gets in my way…

@sred46
I have put a class on the schedule for Monday, April 1 at 7PM. It will take 72 hours to show in the Events list, and will then be open for registration. If that works for you…

Yes, that is great, thank you. Is there any concerns with the fact that I’m 15 if I have a guardian with me? I’ve been using tools with my father since I was very young, including welders and forges.

Thanks,

Sam

Yes, there is. Thank you for asking.

Let’s check with the committee and get their opinion. Normally exceptions to the 18+ rule require dispensation from the chair/co-chair.

Generally I like to speak with the maker and parent in person when we can get a chance. Basically ensure everyone is reasonable / sanity check.

I’m at the space pretty often. Evenings usually work best for me.

Drop me a PM.

Cheers,
-Jim
