I reserved the North Flex Area on Friday, August 29 starting at 7pm for setup and have the space reserved for the celebration on Saturday, August 30, 2025!
We have an upcoming PR Meeting to start planning on Thursday, March 13 at 7pm in the Lecture Room.
I’m hoping to have a Save the Date banner created this week so we can post but the date is set for August 30, 2025.
If anyone would like to help plan or have ideas for this event, you can comment below or attend the meeting.
Here are some ideas I currently have:
Catering
Approaching each committee to discuss any demos during the event (for media)
Honoring the 15 year members
Honoring the members who have been members for 10+ years
Slide show for throughout the years (need photos & volunteer)
Any entertainment (DJ, Band, etc.) if any members are willing
Decorations (need volunteers)
Press Release
Invitations to: Media, other makerspaces, schools, local guilds, etc.
Video team capturing the event (for social content)
Photographers capturing the event (for social content)
DMS 15th Anniversary logo
DMS 15th Anniversary promo items for sale- t-shirts, other swag
Again if you’d like to volunteer to plan, you can attend the March 13 meeting or DM me!
You’re welcome to use any of my photos from the early days. I have photos of many of our monthly events going back to early 2009 or so ( our booth at Oak Cliff Earth Day, our recycled fashion show entry, etc). They’re mostly under Creative Commons Share-Alike license. If memory serves, I think Ed or I posted the announcement of our intent to form a hacker/maker space in Jan 2009 and the first official public meeting to seek members was in Feb of 2009, probably at XMax Games (we used to meet there on Thur nights prior to finding a permanent space). Here’s a link to my Flickr albums - they’re in reverse chronological order, so you’ll have to scroll back a few pages to find circa 2009:
I spent awhile looking through those photos last night, those are fantastic and such great documentation of DMS history! Thank you so much for sharing and allowing us to use them!
