[Discussion] Commodore 128 Drives

I have two 1571 drives that I am considering donating or loaning to VCC however it needs cables.

It looks like the Commodore serial cable is for sale here …

Should we buy a few to keep on hand as they are about $7 a piece?

Also, can you drive copy from a real drive to the SD card using some commodore software?

For the 128 to go 80 columns which we will need in CP/M … it needs to use the RGBI connector

We may need to build this RGBI to VGA converter

Not sure how well that VGA converter is going to work to be truthful. RGBI uses NTSC scan rates of 15.@$# kHz noninterlaced and VGA wants 32-ish kHz. Most VGA monitors will just throw up their hands in frustration if the signal isn’t in that higher range. While the color values may be correctly represented to VGA, the VSYNC and HSYNC will be WAAAAY off. You really need one that has some logic in it to double the scan rate and buffer the line for doubling the vertical resolution.

The C-128 has both composite (and luma/chroma) for 40 column mode and RGBI for 80 column mode … we have a monitor that has HDMI and composite with no VGA inputs …

How about something like …

And
