Deer bone or antler?

Does anyone have any deer bone or antler they would be willing to part with? Or know where I can find some locally?

I am hoping to make some traditional nalbinding needles for my son who is really into knitting. I tried some cow bone I have but it’s got too many marrow cavities. Most of what I am seeing online is done with antler or deer leg bone.

I asked my Blacksmithing Instructor where he acquires his. He teaches us how to make knives with bone handles, so he has to acquire some for his classes. Here’s his response:

I always ask the places that process deer. They will more often than you would think, have antlers and all brought in abs the owners don’t want to keep the antlers or hides. So start there.
Second place I to call around some of the private game preserves in the area. They always have drops as well as some on-site killed deer who the shooter didn’t want to keep the antlers.
After that, look online. eBay and then Etsy for good deals.

Best of luck

That would be great! It’s not an urgent Christmas present so there is no rush.

Ok I’ll run by and get some

What lengths (min, max)? Any other specifics that are important for a suitable piece of bone?

Seems to be mostly leg bones or antler pieces that are about 4 to 5 inches.

I have some elk and deer antler sheds. How big a piece do you need? PM me your mailing address and I’ll drop it in the mail for you.

That would be awesome, I only need small sections like 4-6 inches.
This is what the final product looks like:
