Dallas Makerspace Show & Tell - July 2019

Blacksmithing and woodworking project: kiridashi style scribing knife made from cable “Damascus” (Forge-welded pattern steel from towing cable) and a scrap of bloodwood turned on the lathe. Hot vinegar was used to etch the blade and bring out the texture from the steel.

This was my first attempt at forge-welding cable and as such was only partially successful, but the inclusions in this blade shouldn’t affect its ability to mark an accurate layout line.

Here’s a pic of twisting the cable during the Forge-welding just because I think it looks cool:

So your using grbl 1.1? Raspberry pi has a CNC plugging for lazers.

what is $100,$101,and $102 ?

Darkly labs had their own code already installed but it had some errors

A post was split to a new topic: Need precision machining/drill help

@jendrew12 It looks great! I’m glad you had a good time.

I finally finished my own piece, and I love it. @Lindajdallas Thanks!

That is stunning. You did a great job. It was a fun class and I can hardly wait for the next class.

A few more non-traditional ornaments. I took the (good, bad, ugly) Clint portrait I posted some time back and made it an ornament. All in Mesquite because Texas that’s why. cheers!

Clint’s missing a hangin’ hole, but hangin’s probably too good for 'im.

Love the ornament!

It’s Harry Potter’s b-day! What better way to celebrate than run around the makerspace with Gryffindor robes and a copper jpole antenna we made for the 2 meter band in ham radio. Swish and flick, “wavelength lambdamus!” Thanks for the class, James Harper! @artg_dms haha, Art!
