What are the 7 fundamentals of blacksmithing??
Don’t burn yourself or the place down.
Don’t smush your fingers.
Don’t stick your bare hand into the fire.
Bang the shit outta metal.
Add a twisty detail.
Betting on these 7 processes:
- Forging
- Drawing
- Bending
- Upsetting
- Punching
- Welding
- Finishing
from wikipedia
Although I’ll bet Brad has better sources…
According to abana: drawing/tapering, cutting/punching, bending, twisting, upsetting, joinery, and welding.
Basically what @jast said, a little different but not much.
So you did not weld anything, what did you upset??
The ball-end and to a greater extent the rivet plate. It was upset then drawn sideways, rather than split and bent out.
Well done. you raised the copper as well?
Yessir. Combination of cupping swedge and ball-stake (mostly swedge), all cold-worked except for one course of annealing to relieve some work hardening…
To that list I’d add:
Annealing/Quenching/Tempering - controlling the crystalline structure and mechanical properties of the metal through the controlled application/removal of heat
I love this!
I love love love this!
Dichroic glass pendant. The microwave kiln just blows my mind. You can tack glass in 10 minutes…amazing!
What I did with my cutting board from Woodworking 101! Done with Blitzen. Took 61:30 to etch ($13). I don’t think I needed the laser to go so slowly…
paging @John_Marlow: looks like Eve needs her green dot added.
