Dallas Makerspace Show & Tell - January 2020

Love the horse stall tags! I’ve made sublimated crate tags for my dogs, so much fun.

I do like money. Send me a PM with what you’re thinking pricewise and what you’d like color/size/shape and I’ll see what I can do.

My family had a blast in the acrylic class. Thanks for making it so much fun. Am excited to go up and see how things look now that they are dry.

I’m so glad you had fun! I think the hands-on aspect of this class makes it easy to have a good time. Let me know if you have any problems picking up your pieces! Be sure to tag #dallasmakerspace in any facebook/instagram/social media posts you make.

Forged feather hooks for a rustic coat rack. Made as an entry to a friendly “make two similar hooks and mount them on a board” competition for the North Texas Blacksmith Association meetup next week.

I’ve been learning OpenSCAD by designing an enclosure for my 3D printer:

Goal is to contain fumes and obtain certification from wife to use/keep the printer inside, so it’ll have an integrated carbon air filter and a modern look to match the rest of our space (thinking white oak).

There’s still a lot to do, and I may never finish it, but I’m enjoying learning about cabinetry, 3D programming, and fluid dynamics.

I made an earthquake detection kit to help sense earthquakes from fracking or other sources. This is an open source design which goes together pretty quickly and doesn’t require an external power source.

Made a Walnut and steel floating table. Steel is from metal super markets and wood is from Hardwood Lumber Company. Bought the steel precut and then drilled & welded it at the space. Applied the finish at home.

Bought the wood in 1S, milled it down and then glued up at the space but took it back to HLC to plane it down as it was about 36" wide. Once it was planed I trimmed it to the final dimensions and sanded at the space. Applied a satin poly at home, first with a brush and then the final coat via HVLP.

The steel is drilled out to mount to 16" studs, however in my current apt I had to install those red backer braces to accept the piece. Ideally this would bolt directly up against the wall and into the studs behind it.

Planning on making 3 stools for it at some point.

My son and I made a birdhouse for his girlfriend out of 1/2" B.B. ply. I did the woodwork, he did the assembly and paint.

I’ve made two wands so far this month:

The first is purpleheart, nine-and-one-quarter-inches. The second is aromatic cedar, about eleven inches (It’s no longer in my possession and I forgot to write down the final measure).

I turned them both on the mini-lathes at DMS, then took them home for sanding, pyrography, and finish. I have a couple more that I’ve roughed out, but no pictures of them just yet.

I kept a great plains rat snake for over 10 years (basically a corn snake, but gray). He never had it that good
