All,
I tidied up by throwing away things that do not belong in that room and
putting the cables back into their boxes, ran a new hdmi cable from the
projector to the receiver tonight, and rearranged a few things to make the
front of the room look less cluttered and make it more difficult for the
HDMI cable to be jammed against the wall.
Unfortunately, it seems that the receiver is not playing sound, and I
think that the bulb might be dim. If someone wants to look at the sound,
that would be cool, otherwise I am planning on working on it this weekend
if I have not later today (Wednesday). Afterwards I will send out another
status update.

The audio setup got messed up on the Chromecast input. I’ve got that reset and working.

The AUX HDMI port is also working properly now… At least for stereo, I don’t have a surround source to test the rear speakers with.
I did do a self test with the receiver, and it put a test signal out on all 5 speakers.

Does the sub-woofer work or hooked up on the surround sound setup?
No, the subwoofer isn’t connected. I couldn’t find a long enough RCA cable to reach. Maybe someone can swing by Tanner’s and pick up a single line (mono) RCA male-male 10ft or so cable.

Cool I’ll look into it. I noticed stuff I watched was not complete 5.1 surround. Great for “public domain” movie watching.
Found an RCA cable and hooked up the subwoofer. It works fine in test mode, but I don’t have any 5.1 source to test it with.
