I can’t speak to specifics, but prior to the Lewisville landfill nearing maximum capacity (and filling over the facilities) there were a few commercial recyclers making a go at extracting valuable materials from the primary waste stream. Of course with a commercial arrangement one imagines they explicitly assumed all risks associated with handling raw solid waste unlike some random picking through the pit as loads are delivered.
Maybe there’s a different kind of workable solution. An enterprising group of DMS members befriends a Wood-Mizer owner. Work out an arrangement that’s a win-win-win. Tree owner gets rid of tree, DMS gets some lumber, sawmill owner gets … something they’ll have to decide upon. Gas? Cash? Some of the wood?
