[Capture The Flag] Midnight Hacker CTF

Vintage Computer Committee will be hosting an in person meet and greet, with some training sessions, an install fest, and a Capture The Flag (CTF).

C’mon down to the makerspace for some late night hacking. Do some networking with other security professionals, get your laptop setup for security. Lunch, dinner, and snacks will be provided.

Event Schedule:

  • Dinner, Meet, Greet and Key Signing
  • Install fest
  • Slide Deck A - Introduction to packet analysis with WireShark and Nmap
  • Capture The Flag

The Capture The Flag is geared towards beginner/intermediate participants. But advance participants are welcome.

The installfest your chance to bring your laptop and have get some help with setting up the following:

  • Key signing
  • Docker/VMWare/Virtualbox
  • Kali Linux
  • Adding security tools to your Linux host
  • Virtual machine swaps (bring external hard drives)
  • Building your own hacklab

that’s a “feature” of our current calendar version in production.

Walk-ins are welcome but cannot qualify for the CPE credit hour.

Keep in mind, no new registrations are allowed after the cancellation cutoff time.

If you set a 1 day cancellation window, it forfeits 1 day of registration, to allow for cancellations.

Yes, this thread is for the original event we had last year. Its back and going on tonight.

Why do we do this for non-honorarium free events?

Rules and Regulations

Following actions are prohibited, unless explicitly told otherwise by event Admins

  • No cooperation between teams with independent accounts. Sharing of keys or providing revealing hints to other teams is cheating, don’t do it.
  • No attacking the competition infrastructure. If bugs or vulns are found, please alert the competition organizers immediately
  • Absolutely no sabotaging of other competing teams, or in any way hindering their independent progress.
  • No brute forcing of challenge flag/ keys against the scoring site
  • DoSing the CTF platform or any of the challenges is forbidden
  • Legal bit - Disclaimer. By participating in the contest, you agree to release Dallas Makerspace and its members, and the hosting organization from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the contest. You acknowledge and agree that Dallas Makerspace et al is not responsible for technical, hardware or software failures, or other errors or problems which may occur in connection with the contest.
  • Be excellent to each other, have fun and learn something cool.

He is asking for honorarium. I noticed that he was one short of three so I tried to register. :frowning:
