Live edge is just wood that’s not square - Yes it can be cut/ planed.
You cannot put bark through the planar. It is generally full of dirt and rocks that’s dull or damage the blades.
Or jointer. Or any sharp cutting tool, really.
Yep. In fact this is true of almost all “weathered wood”, i.e. wood that has been exposed to outdoors for a significant period of time, include pallets, fence slats, slabs drying in open air for a year, or a tree branch/log cut down or picked up off the ground. Running a 12 diameter 4" long log with bark still on through the bandsaw to re-saw it into boards will ruin/dull the blade almost before the cut is done…essentially like cutting a piece of sandpaper.
Any weathered wood should have bark removed and/or have long grain power washed/scrubbed before running through any power cutting tool that can’t be easily re-sharpened.
Can you put a slice of something with a bark rim through the sander?
Yes. No blades on the sander. Probably falls under the “use your own paper” territory like resin.
