Can you do Dye Sub on Pottery?

Hi, my name is Melissa, and I’m new to this group.

I am a potter and was wondering if you can do Dye Sublimation on unglazed pottery and if it will last. I have some pottery that got fired before I signed it and was wondering if Dye Sub could be a solution. Thanks in advance!

Dye sublimation requires a polymer coating for the ink to bond with. Unglazed pottery will not bond with dye sub inks.

It would depend on the Glaze you used, I’m not knowledgeable of Glazing compounds so can’t help you there. However, you could make a test tile, or several with the glaze you plan to use and try printing them.

There is also a product called Subli Glaze you might want to try https://subliglaze.com/

This stuff looks amazing! Thank you so much for the tip. It may be just what I am looking for.

You could probably put your signature on using underglaze (on the bottom). Is it just bisqued?

Thank you for your suggestion. The piece is already glaze fired, so I am looking into alternative methods to sign and protect the signature post firing.
