Can we pay for things without cash or kiosks?

OK, there are a ton of threads where people ask about paying for things. In my case I’m looking to pay for printer usage (https://talk.dallasmakerspace.org/t/where-do-we-pay-printing-fees/59596) but there really isn’t a good answer anywhere.

Is there a way I can use PayPal or a CC for things outside of the committees that have a kiosk?

Need to pay $2 for some copies, but don’t typically carry cash. I feel like it should be easier to pay for things than it is

Well, we found that Paypal was full of suck for our uses. We got back money, but zero information. We couldn’t even tell who paid.

Maybe we could check with @brsims, who is the current treasurer, for his suggestions. Usually we are forgiving enough that making the effort to get what you owe (the $2 in this case) and paying at a future date is fine.

Nope, there’s just no way to handle this administratively right now. That may change in the near future, but for now, we a re stuck with what we have.

Pay for 'em next time you are in, just don’t stiff us long term.

Nothing easier that the fair exchange of currency for goods and services. If you get super worried about it, the 7/11 on the corner has an atm and will make change.

I’ve been thinking we would save alot of money if we batch charged people maybe at the end of the month. We wouldnt have to have a bunch of expensive iPads that break or cant unlock. Also alot of charges are like $1/$2 where we probably spend about 30 cents in transaction fees.

I know this would require a whole new system or way to do things but like I said its an idea. This is in no way intended as a guide or suggestion for an specific way of system implementation.

@brsims Any way to see what the average payment is on the wood shop, laser & 3DFab kiosks As well as our transaction processing rates?

Feel free to stop by a finance meeting and chat about it. Long story short, I doubt we’ll be moving to a batch payment system.

If you don’t want to use a regular credit card, no-fee reloadable debit cards do the job.

Would it be possible to set up a square iPad in the common room that can be used in conjunction with the kiosk that I believe Logistics is going to implement? I’d be happy to help set it up in similar vein to the current ones in use.

Check the laser discord, the square payments were posted recently and we talked a bit about our fees.

It is. Once we know what needs to be on it, for sure.
