C128 SD Card reader

For those that want to know,

After reading over the CD that came with the device I found the source site which is https://www.sd2iec.de/. While the ebay auction I found the thing at was http://www.ebay.com/itm/SD2IEC-SD-Card-Reader-for-Commodore-64-1541-Disk-Drive-Emulator-C64-C128-VIC-/282408379384?hash=item41c0d9e3f8:g:izMAAOSwA3dYiLz7

My question is would we need to replace this or upgrade to a better one?

If you spend any money at all, get the latest model.

Any suggestions on which one/where to buy?

After we talked about it, I googled SD2IEC and found their web site. There seems to be one “official” seller and several “second” sources. That is a risk of open source hardware.

Maybe patronize the one who developed the design?

Well that was a large chunk of the budge. After $90 and about a month later we’ll have the V4 model from https://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/index.php/shop/commodore.html along with an 8Gb sdcard that is already prepped.

After I boot up the grid tonight, I’ll submit a mirror job for archiving c64.com into the digital library so we can sync images to the card once it comes in.

Goody, I get to try it out when I am there Tuesday night. I want to get my still primitive toolchain working with actual Commodore hardware.

I will be teaching a bunch of classes in the near future. I should sling another honorarium your way.

Edit: Oh, it will be another month…
