Black Oxiding Welded parts

Does anyone have experience with black oxiding welded parts?

@keoliver does. If you are referring to standard wipe on blueing.

Factory blueing requires boiling of chemicals which we can’t/won’t do at the space. I looked into it at one point.

Not that it is the same, but in blacksmthing we often make a mixture of boiled linseed oil and beeswax and then apply it to warm metal. It causes it to be protected from the elements and also imparts a blackish color to it This weekend we made candy canes and then applied just beeswax to them while they were still warm. This, too, imparts a black color to them.

Ok, very cool, I had a coworker asking about because he had some “clipping” of the finish where a weld was. It looked like a clear coat type of chip. Next time I’m in the office (next year) I’ll take a look at it. Thanks for your responses.
