Bought some 4/4 beach , was gonna stain it but the end grain has these spots that dont look good. If you need beech for a paint project , I’m selling it for cheap $35 for what’s in the picture
What’s the problem here? I see some checking but that can (will) happen with any wood as it is kiln dried. If the concern is end grain being darker from the stain, again, that will happen with most any wood. Using a pigment based stain or a pre seal will reduce/ eliminate it.
My daughter wanted a smaller cutting board last year. I made several 5ish by 12ish cutting boards out of some 4/4 Beech I had. Knocked the sharp edges off with a handplane. Scraped smooth. Soaked in mineral oil in a large baggy
They sand on edge to save counter space.
Perfect for cutting fruit or cheese
Takes very little space at a dinner table
Super easy to clean
We use the smaller size far more often than our larger cutting boards that usually store under cabinets and are only used on the kitchen counter and take a lot of space in the sink drying rack. I highly recommend small cutting boards
This looks interesting. I might be interested in it.
I’ll be there this evening and tomorrow. Pm me
A couple of coats of sanding sealer would help even out the stain and prevent over-absorption. Also helps when staining open-pored wood like oak.
