The 1980’s: hairspray, pumped-up kicks, and Group B rally. F1 levels of power on dirt, snow, and gravel, all before safety (especially spectator safety) was invented.
The Audi Quattro changed everything. It wasn’t the first all-wheel-drive rally car, but it was the first to dominate (bonus points if you know what was the first AWD rally car, and bonus bonus points if you know what sweet ute is on the same platform).
Michèle Mouton. She didn’t just compete in Group B; she won. She took four WRC victories, finished runner-up in the 1982 World Rally Championship (narrowly missing the title), and became the first woman to win the Pike’s Peak hill climb in 1985.
So, join us! Let’s celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring a true pioneer and demonstrating how much worse we are at driving one of the most iconic rally cars of all time. Good vibes, epic sideways action, and horrendous crashes guaranteed.
Game: Richard Burns Rally (using the Rally Sim Fans launcher) Car: Audi Quattro A2 Group B Stage: Rally School
Congrats to old Tim @sspeed33317 for winning the last sim challenge, Formula E at Monaco 1969. I appreciate you bruising our egos by coming in late at night and destroying our times. Please collect your prize from @nugen
Also, pro tip for those attempting the group B challenge: If you stall the car hold in the clutch and hold down the spacebar to fire it back up.
I’m guessing this is rendering incorrectly for others, too, with just a big blank white spot where we’re supposed to be seeing a tiktok link? (I think this might be a Firefox problem?)
Here’s the link, if anyone else is having that problem & wants to know what’s supposed to be showing there…
Link (because firefox sucks at rendering, I guess)
Edit to add the PIke’s Peak run, also in that thread a bit later:
Great pick for Women’s History Month!
And great teasers on the bonus points - I don’t earn either of them, but have enjoyed researching! Will we get a follow up on that to confirm we found what you’re posting about?
OK, last SPAM post, then I’ll shut up.
Good video on Group B, the build up to it, why it (and its insane drivers, like Michele) is so legendary, and briefly why we don’t have it any more, and how that energy/ferver has been dealt with so WRC still has nutter (but less deadly) classes and remains motorsport gold.
