The last couple of times I’ve gone to use the automotive area to work on my car it already had a couple of vehicles parked in it and no one around them. One pickup had what looked like laser materials in it. On another visit a vehicle was parked at such an angle and position that there was a car length of space to the tool boxes in front of it and it was so far over to the right that access to the lift side of the shop was very restricted. Maybe it would be better if people not use the automotive area as their indoor parking and delivery area for non-auto related projects or at least move their vehicle back outside as soon as they get stuff for non-automotive projects unloaded.
Have you tried talking to the people who are parking? Generally I’ll do something like take off a suspension part, go to the metal shop, do some welding on it, test fit, more welding, and then put it back on. It looks like I’m not using automotive but in reality I am.
The rules are you can load and unload, but you can’t just stay parked, however people need gentle reminders of that.
Luke nails it,
Always ask, you might get a dirty look because the person your asking to move has probably been waiting their turn as well. But, that is a minor issue.
Second, if you feel it an egregious miss use, worthy of Highlighting to the membership via TALK. Take a picture and post that with time and date. That way if it is a common offender we can actually solve the issue. Because we can look back at the video and get a better understanding of the issue, beyond the very narrow explanation of,
Could we get some tape on the floor to show folks roughly where to park?
Nope because there was nobody in the area. I guess could take off one of their suspension parts and go weld on it untill somebody shows up. Maybe that would qualify as a gentle reminder. Ha! I was rather hoping the post would raise awareness to the appropriate level.
There is tape. The area taped off in red is for loading and unloading, the area in green is for automotive work.
That has done pretty much nothing to resolve the indoor parking issue.
The tape is all removed per Tom’s request
For as much good as it was doing, I guess there’s no harm in that.
I worked on my car once, and then got distracted for a few minutes talking to someone and looking at their project…and then got pretty well chastised, yelled at and screamed at because I left my car there for a few minutes…
As always, please report issues like this to the Board of Directors. Yelling and screaming at other members is not allowed at any time.
If the pickup you’re referring to was black - you’re close, it had plasma cut materials in it (or being fitted to it) and it was most likely out of the garage by the time you posted this. I did take a minute to wash my hands and use the bathroom (that may or may not be the correct order) before leaving… I didn’t see anybody in the area looking like they were waiting - or angry typing or whatever as I ever so cautiously reversed out of the building. That reminds me though, the night before I had to do some design work and went to the computer area only to find no available desk space with roughly half the chairs not actively being used but presumably reserved as evidenced by the abandoned laptops sitting in front of them. If you weren’t referring to a black pickup then please disregard. The more I think about it, my hands were really dirty - I think I washed, then used the bathroom then washed again
There is NO “parking in the automotive area”.
Tape on the floor is a waste of tape and time & money.
The rule breakers don’t care about the tape or the rules or anyone else.
The rule breakers are most likely not on Talk & don’t read signs or tape.
Automotive folks (for the most part) are NOT the ones that cause the problems with blocking the ramp / door/ bay areas.
Tape is CLEARLY not the answer - but it is pretty when new.
Thanks
.P.S. Luke did “nail it” above!
Clayton - if you could give me a name or a date and time of when that happened if that is still on video tape - I’d like more info.
No one tolerates that - not that I know of.
No worries. It was a couple of years ago…I wasn’t thinking when I brought it up…doesn’t lend anything to this conversation…
But thank you for offering.
Laptops? What’s your point in bringing that up? Well, other people do some stuff too?
