I don’t recall seeing a vacuum pump for an a/c system. Is there one available, and does it pull down well enough?
I feel like I’ve seen one there in the past, but I am not sure it is still around, and if so, whether it is working reliably. When I needed to do something AC related recently, I borrowed one from Autozone loaner program. O’Reilly’s loans stuff out as well.
There is a air powered vacume pump as well as a conventional electric one. I used the electric one before the automotive move to the new location.
If DMS Auto has a working pump (likely does if @TLAR say he used it) I know there is some PAG (46?) oil on top of cabinet near two post lift (the one just to the north/towards ceramics). How much/is enough for pump I don’t know.
edit: Don’t use PAG in a vacuum pump!
Might just pick one up on the way over just in case.
FYI: I brought my own manifold guage set with me along with a 30lb tank of R134.
The pump has a black line in the site glass window that you fill up to.
It is fairly obvious on the front of the pump.
Don’t run the pump without oil in it.
PAG 46? Are any of the vacuum pumps designed for anything but mineral oil? I guess there are synthetic vacuum pump oils that are also suitable. But the google suggests that PAG is a really bad choice in a vacuum pump.
I think you are right! My bad for not thinking clearly…looks like picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
Previous post edited so no one relies on it.
You too??!! lol ![]()
The shop was crowded yesterday. Even some illegal parked vehicles! Full weekend, so not sure when I can get over to the bay. Sunday evening?
Apparently I am being summoned to the makerspace Sunday to help a friend with his vintage bucket and how to remove riveted ball joints from ancient chariots - this will be after 1900hrs.
